Choosing a good name

Choose a good name for the child, which should be made by prefixing (Abdullah) to any of the names of ALLAH (Subhanahu Wata’ala), e.g. Abdullah, Abdur Rahman, etc., or call them by the names of the Prophet or any name which may have good meaning. The Holy Prophet (Sallallahu Alaihi Wa Sallam) has said, “On the day of resurrection you will be called by your names and your father’s names, so give yourselves good names.” [Abu Daud]
